Hurricane Katrina was a terrible Disaster. Listening to the News it appears that it will take about 80 Days that's almost 3 Months just to get the water out of the city. Estimates on the rebuilding effort start at 75 Billion and go up from their. They still don't know or even want to guess at a Death Toll, The Outpouring of support so far has been huge over 60 Nations have offered help. Here is a painless way we can all help. They built a bridge in San Diego and for the first few years they charged a toll. They stopped charging the toll when enough money had been raised to pay for the bridge. We as a country can do something similar to help pay for the Hurricane Katrina Relief and recovery effort. We can have mandatory or voluntary taxes and have all the money raised by these Taxes go to the Hurricane Katrina Relief and recovery effort. We could have a 1% National Sales Tax. We can have a tax on Movie Tickets, Concert Tickets of maybe 25 cents per ticket. We can add a 25 cent tax to all beer sold and pro sporting events. These taxes could end after enough money has been raised to pay for Hurricane Katrina Relief and recovery effort. Why not continue the Taxes for an Extra 6 months to a year and place the money in an Emergency fund for use with future Disasters. The Idea of a national Sales tax is not very popular but drastic times call for drastic measures and most people being kind and caring would probably support such a proposal if they knew the proper checks and balances were in place.
